Holy moly.

Yesterday Mr. Patterson called up with the lovely and exciting news that Sundays at Tiffany’s will be #1 on the New York Times bestseller list next week! And #2 at USA Today! He seemed very pleased, though I guess this is kind of old hat for him now. It’s not old hat for me, though! Years ago a book I’d ghostwritten hit the bestseller list, and that was fun, but my name wasn’t anywhere on it. So this is quite different. My kids say that some of their teachers at school have mentioned it to them, just from seeing the book at Costco or Barnes and Noble.

Yet somehow it has not made my house tidier or my children more eager to do their homework. And I keep having thoughts like, my scuba instructor seeing it and thinking, “Oh my God! That’s the woman who hurled over the side of my boat in front of everyone!”

All the same, knowing that it’s doing well and actually has my name on it (and despite the fact that it was Jim’s idea, plot, premise, and characters . . .) is quite a thrill, and I’m proud of it. I’ve gotten nice notes from my family and friends, which is really sweet of them. My mother-in-law loved it–she’s a huge JP fan.

Yep–now if I could just slap the name “James Patterson” on everything I do, I’d be golden . . .
